The popular Hassocks six a side football tournament
(running annually since 1961) is always held on the first Saturday in August
at Adastra Park, Hassocks. Which means this years Hassocks six a side tournament
will be held on the 4th August.
The two large fields of Adastra Park are perfect for holding the tournament,
which comprises eight pitches (four pitches in each field), approx 60mtrs
x 30 mtrs with full size goals, nets and corner flags. The pitches are marked
out into three sections, which consist of a penalty area at each end that
stretches across the width of the pitch, and also a middle section. Each
game is refereed by a qualified ref and each pitch has a pool steward.
The Hassocks six a side tournament is scheduled to start at 11o’clock with
the last match timed to begin at 18.30.
The event is structured to allow 80 teams to take part (approx 650 to 700
players). There are two competitions, the main draw with 70 teams (35 in
the morning draw and 35 in the afternoon draw), and the Vets trophy with
ten teams (five in the morning draw and five in the afternoon draw). Please note that the age of the vets players is now 37 on the day of the tournament.
The teams are spilt into 16 pools, with five teams in each pool. Eight pools
play in the morning and eight pools play in the afternoon. After they have
completed their group matches the two top teams of each group go forward
to the knock out stage. The winners of the Vets section also join the main

Available on the day is a beer tent, barbeque, tea and soft drinks and also
a first aid post. Cost of entry is £45 per team.
